Jane Downing was born in Australia but has since spent many years living in Papua New Guinea, Tanzania, Ireland, Indonesia, the (then) USSR, China, the Marshall Islands and Guam. She has had short stories and poetry published in journals in Australia and overseas. A collection of her short stories, Searching for the Volcano, appeared in 1999. The Lost Tribe is her second novel. The Trickster was published by Pandanus Books in 2003.
