Phil Fitzpatrick

Inspired by the books of Jack Hides, Ivan Champion and J.K. McCarthy, Philip Fitzpatrick went to Papua New Guinea as a Cadet Patrol Officer in 1967. He left in 1973, on the eve of Self-Government, with mixed feelings about Australia's contribution to Papua New Guinea's future.

Philip has spent many years working as a cultural heritage researcher among Aboriginal people. Since 1997, he has made regular trips back to Papua New Guinea and undertaken work in the oil and gas exploration industry.
