Jon Fraenkel is a research scholar at the Macmillan Brown Centre, University of Canterbury in Christchurch, New Zealand. He has also acted as Senior Research Fellow at the Pacific Institute of Advanced Studies in Governance and Development at the University of the South Pacific, and has lectured on Economic History in Fiji and throughout England.

He has written numerous essays, articles and book chapters, featured in such publications as the Pacific Economic Bulletin, the Journal of Pacific History, the Australian Journal of Politics and History, and the Oxford Encyclopaedia of Economic History. He writes regular articles for the Economist, Guardian, Sydney Morning Herald, Australian, New Zealand Herald and Fiji Times.
