An unusual memoir that tells the story of Ulli and Georgina Beier's experiences in Papua New Guinea during the 1960s and 70s. Beier was employed as a lecturer in new English writing at the University of Papua New Guinea and he and Georgina collaborated in the establishment of a centre of art and literature in Port Moresby that stimulated the careers of some of the regions most celebrated artists and writers. This memoir reveals how the support, encouragement and foward-thinking of the Beiers and their supporters within the university created an environment in which the indigenous culture of Papua New Guinea flourished.
